General Information

How do I set up my Shark ION Robot?
  1. Place the charging dock on a level surface with its back against a wall, in an unobstructed space that can easily be accessed by your Shark ION Robot. Plug the dock into a power outlet. The dock must be plugged in for the robot to find it. Keep any obstructions as far from the dock as possible so the dock can detect the robot wherever it goes.
  2. Prep your home for cleaning. To help your robot complete its mission, remove all obstacles, such as loose power cords, clothes, toys, and low-hanging drapes.
  3. Snap the two included side brushes onto the square pegs on the bottom of the robot. Press the brushes down onto the pegs until they click into place.
  4. Charge your Shark ION Robot completely before using it. Flip the power switch on the side of the robot to the "On" position and place your robot on the dock. When the robot is charging, the battery level indicator lights will begin to cycle. Once your robot is fully charged, simply press the "Clean" button to send your robot into action.

How does the robot decide where to go?
Your Shark ION Robot is designed with Smart Sensor Technology so it can navigate around obstructions as it cleans your floors. By using an array of sensors, the Shark ION Robot will steer itself around your home, using walls and objects as its guide and gently bumping them. This method allows the robot to travel in and out of rooms and around obstacles. If your Shark ION Robot appears to be spending a lot of time in one spot, don't worry. Over time, its programming will help it cover the full area. Your robot might not hit every area in one cleaning, but by scheduling daily cleaning, you'll notice its cleaning path will differ with each run to ensure it is maintaining your floors.

How do I prep my home for cleaning?
To help your robot complete its mission, prep your floor by removing all obstacles, such as loose power cords, clothes, toys, and low-hanging drapes. How do I set the current day and time on my remote?
  1. Press and hold the TIME button (with the clock icon) on the remote for one second. On the screen, the day of the week display will begin flashing.
  2. Press the UP/DOWN arrows on the remote control to select the day of the week, then press the CLEAN/ENTER button (the center button with the arrow) to set. On the screen, the hour field in the time display will begin flashing.
  3. Use the UP/DOWN arrows on the remote control to select the hours, then press the CLEAN/ENTER button to set. On the screen, the minutes field in the time display will begin flashing.
  4. Use the UP/DOWN arrows to select the minutes, then press the CLEAN/ENTER button to set. On the screen, AM and PM will begin to flash.
  5. Use the UP/DOWN arrows to select AM or PM, then press the CLEAN/ENTER button to set.
  6. Once you have finished setting the time, you can proceed to setting a cleaning schedule.

How to I set up a cleaning schedule?
  1. To schedule a cleaning, the day and time must be set. If you haven’t yet set the date and time, refer to "How do I set the current day and time on my remote?"
  2. To schedule or edit a cleaning, press and hold the SCHEDULE button (with the calendar icon) on the remote control for one second. On the screen, the day of the week display will flash.
  3. Use the UP/DOWN arrows on the remote to select the day of the week for your scheduled cleaning. (Days with a cleaning already scheduled will be circled. If a day is not circled, there is no cleaning scheduled for that day yet.) Press the CLEAN/ENTER button on the remote to set the day. The day of the week will remain flashing until the cleaning time is completely scheduled.
  4. Use the UP/DOWN arrows on the remote to turn the cleaning scheduled for the selected day ON or OFF. Press CLEAN/ENTER to confirm selection.
  5. If OFF is selected, the screen will display the days of the week again, with no time or AM/PM options. If ON is selected, a circle will appear around the selected day. To change the time of the cleaning on the selected day, use the UP/DOWN arrows on the remote to select the hour of the cleaning, then press CLEAN/ENTER to set.
  6. On the screen, the minutes field in the time display will begin flashing. Use the UP/DOWN arrows to select the minutes, then press the CLEAN/ENTER button to set. On the screen, AM and PM will begin to flash.
  7. Use the UP/DOWN arrows to select AM or PM, then press the CLEAN/ENTER button to set. Use the UP/DOWN arrows on the remote to select another day for a scheduled cleaning.
  8. When all days and times for scheduled cleanings are set, press the SCHEDULE button on the remote to complete setup. (After 20 seconds of inactivity, the system will time out and transmit your current schedule.) Your robot should beep and show the Schedule icon.

How do I turn my cleaning schedule on/off?
  1. To turn the schedule ON, press and hold the UP arrow on the remote for two full seconds. The Signal icon will appear on screen and a Schedule icon will appear on your robot.
  2. To turn the schedule OFF, press and hold the UP arrow on the remote for two full seconds. The Signal icon will appear on screen and the Schedule icon will disappear from your robot.


NOTE: You will need to have at least one day scheduled for cleaning to toggle the schedule ON/OFF.

Filters

How do I clean the filter?
  1. With the dust bin out of the unit, clear hair from the Anti-Tangle Comb on the dust bin.
  2. Pull the filter using the tabs out of the dust bin.
  3. Tap the filters clean or use a soft brush to remove dust trapped between the pleats. The filter is NOT washable.
  4. Reinsert the filter into the dust bin. Close the dust bin and slide it back into the unit.
  5. After 2 months, visit sharkaccessories.com to purchase a replacement filter.

Brushrolls

How do I clean the brushroll?
  1. Push up on the tabs on the brushroll access door, then lift off the door.
  2. Remove the brushroll.
  3. Clean the brushroll.
  4. Remove the soft end cap of the brushroll and remove any hair or debris buildup. Replace end cap once debris is removed.
  5. To reinstall, insert the flat end first, then the protruding end, then click the brushroll securely into place.
  6. Close the brushroll access door and press down until it clicks into place.

BotBoundary Strips

What are BotBoundary strips?
The brown strips included in the box with your robot are called BotBoundary strips. They are used to quickly and easily create "no-go zones" to keep your robot out of the areas you would like it to avoid.
These may include:
  • Near power cords that might cause tangles
  • Hallways or other areas you don't want your robot to enter
  • Around furniture with low clearance that may trap your robot

How do I use my BotBoundary strips?
  1. Cut the BotBoundary strip to the desired length (18" minimum) so it covers the entire perimeter of an object or spans the length of the doorway or other areas you don't want your robot to enter.
  2. Simply place the BotBoundary strip flat on the floor or under an area rug. For best results, make sure the BotBoundary strip is completely flat against the floor.
  3. You can create angles to customize the BotBoundary strips to fit your home. When setting up your BotBoundary strips, it is useful to either make a closed loop around an object or to place them between fixed objects, like door frames or the legs of a couch.

How do I replace the side brushes?
To remove a bent or damaged side brush, pull it off its post. To install a new side brush, align the hole in the center of the brush over the post on the bottom of the unit. Press the side brush down over the post until it clicks into place.

It's possible that the height variance between floor types may be too great for the robot to pass over. If you'd like the robot to clean one of these rooms, lift the robot over the threshold. My Shark ION Robot is getting stuck. What should I do?
During your first few cleanings, you may need to make some small adjustments to optimize your robot's performance.

  1. Always prep your home before cleaning. Some furniture or loose cords may create problems for your robot. To prevent this, clear away cords and other obstructions. If an obstruction can't be moved, block off the area with the included BotBoundary strips.
  2. Your robot may find its way under furniture with low clearance, but not be able to free itself. Try using BotBoundary strips to block problem areas. Consider shifting furniture away from carpets or using furniture risers to create clearance.
  3. Your robot can easily climb over obstacles up to 3/4" high. Obstructions higher than this may present a challenge. Use BotBoundary strips to block off these areas.
  4. Your robot is designed to run for approximately 60 minutes before searching for its dock. If your robot roams too far, it may have trouble finding the dock. Make sure the dock is centrally located, with 3 feet of clearance on either side. Depending on the size of your floor space, it may be helpful to use BotBoundary strips to keep your robot from traveling too far. You can also add a second dock, available at sharkaccessories.com.

My robot has detected a clog. What should I do?
First, remove and empty the dust bin. Press the filter door release button, open the door, and remove the filter. Clean the dust bin and filter with a cleaning brush. Next, turn the unit over and remove the brushroll. Look into the inlet to see if anything might be stuck, and remove any obstructions.

Pick up the Shark ION Robot to free it from whatever it is stuck on. Press the bumper back a few times, making sure it moves freely and isn't locked in a position where it's pressed back. If the bumper remains stuck, contact Customer Service at 1-877-581-7375.

Why does the robot power on when it gets knocked off the dock?
If your robot is kicked or pushed off its dock or the power goes out, the robot may attempt to locate the dock. If the robot is unable to find the dock within 30 seconds, it will turn itself off.

How do I remove hair that is wrapped around the brushroll?
Remove the brushroll from the unit by lifting off the brushroll access door, then pulling out the brushroll. Use scissors or the cleaning tool provided with your unit to cut away any debris or hair. Replace the brushroll to resume cleaning.

What do I do if the dust bin inlet gets clogged?
First, remove and empty the dust bin. Press the filter door release button, open the door, and remove the filter. Clean the dust bin and filter with a cleaning brush. Next, turn the unit over and remove the brushroll. Look into the inlet to see if anything might be stuck, and remove any obstructions.
