Using the Vacuum

How do I attach accessories to the vacuum?
There are two ways to clean with the accessories. Either separate the handheld from the rest of the vacuum by pressing the "Wand Release" button or keep the wand connected to the handheld vacuum and remove the cleaner head by stepping on the foot pedal release.

Choose the desired cleaning accessory and slide it onto the end of the handheld vacuum or the end of the wand. Use either power setting as the suction power is the same in either mode. Note that the accessories do not need to be pushed all the way onto the vacuum to be secure. Only a few of the accessories latch into place with the click of a button (e.g. Mini Motorized Brush, Flexible Hose).

Filters

How do I know when the filters need to be cleaned?
Check to see if the filters need to be cleaned if the vacuum is not picking up dirt, airflow is restricted, or you notice lighter or no suction. You can tap loose dirt off filters between washes and wash them according to the regular cleaning schedule-once a month for the pre-motor filters; every 9 months for the post-motor filter—to maintain optimal performance. Refer to your Instruction Book for more information.

How often should I wash the filters?
We recommend washing your filters once a month. Simply remove the filter lid, remove the foam and felt filters underneath, wash both with tap water until the water runs clean, then air-dry completely (at least 24 hours) and replace back into your vacuum. You can also tap loose dirt off filters between washes as needed. It is important to note that your foam filters may appear dirty after first use--this is normal. These filters will discolor over time—this is also normal. Extra filters are available for purchase at sharkaccessories.com if you want to purchase a spare set to keep on hand, but the good news is these filters will last the lifetime of the vacuum.

Brushroll

What if I see hair wrapped around my brushroll?
If you see any hair wrapped around the brushroll, extending cleaning time will assist Zero-M technology in removing it for you. We recommend using "High-Pile Carpet" mode on a bare-floor surface or lower pile carpet or area rug. Run the vacuum back and forth to allow hair to make its way to the dust cup.

There are two easy ways to empty the dust cup.

  1. Make sure the unit is unplugged first. Then remove the dust cup by squeezing the two "Dust Cup Release" latches on both sides of the dust cup base and pulling it straight out. Place the rest of the vacuum on the floor. Hold the dust cup over the trash and press the bottom door release button on the front to empty. To reattach, insert the dust cup straight back into the hand vacuum.
  2. Separate the hand vacuum from the rest of the vacuum by pressing the "Wand Release" button. Next, hold the dust cup over the trash and press the bottom door release button on the front. Tap gently to empty contents or wipe clean with a soft cloth. Press the door shut again until it clicks.

The dust cup should be emptied each time you vacuum and when the dust cup appears full, or, for optimal performance, when it reaches the "Max Fill" line.

Cleaner head

How do I maintain the Zero-M cleaner head?
If you see any hair wrapped around the brushroll, extending cleaning time will assist Zero-M technology in removing it for you. We recommend using "High-Pile Carpet" mode on a bare-floor surface or low-pile carpet or area rug. Run the vacuum back and forth to allow hair to make its way to the dust cup. If some fibers remain wrapped around the brushroll after continued use, use a coin to turn the three locks counterclockwise to lift off the cleaner head cover. Carefully remove debris from the brushroll and clear airway of blockages. Replace cover, pressing firmly along all sides and turning the three locks clockwise to close.

Troubleshooting

This FAQ page is a great place to find info, tips and help. Just make sure you’ve read your Owner’s Guide before using your unit.

Using the Vacuum

What should I do if the I notice a change of suction?
If you detect a change of suction in your vacuum, you should first check to make sure your filters are clean. Start by opening the dust cup and locating the screen or mesh filter inside. Ensure that all dirt, debris, and hair is removed from that screen. Next, remove the filters and knock all dirt and dust loose. You may want to do this outside. Now, reinsert your filters and close the dust cup. Test the vacuum's suction against your hand. If the filters are clean but suction continues to fail, this may indicate that you have a clog between the wand and the cleaner head. First, you'll want to remove and inspect the wand to make sure there are no obstructions. Next, check the cleaner head to make sure there are no blockages in the airpath or debris on the brushroll. Lastly, check all dust cup intake openings to make sure they're clear.

Brushroll

What should I do if the brushroll stops spinning?
If the brushroll indicator light on the cleaner head turns red, the brushroll has stopped spinning. Immediately turn off and unplug the vacuum, disconnect the nozzle, and remove blockage before reconnecting and turning vacuum back on. If the brushroll indicator light is green, the blockage has been successfully cleared. If the light is still red, please contact Customer Service at 1-877-581-7375 for further assistance.
