Using the Vacuum

How do I store my vacuum?
Detach the handheld vacuum from the top of the wand. Hang the catch on the bottom of the dust cup from the hook on the bottom of the wand. Wrap the power cord around the two cord hooks.

Another option is to simply place the vacuum flat on the floor. There are rubber pads on the base of the handheld vacuum that prevent scratching or slipping.

If you would like to hang the vacuum from the wall, a mount is available for purchase at sharkaccessories.com. An instruction sheet with mounting template and hardware are included.

How do I attach accessories to the vacuum?
There are two ways to clean with the accessories. Either separate the handheld from the rest of the vacuum by pressing the "Wand Release" button or keep the wand connected to the handheld vacuum and remove the cleaner head by stepping on the foot pedal release.

Choose the desired cleaning accessory and slide it onto the end of the handheld vacuum or the end of the wand. Use either power setting as the suction power is the same in either mode. Note that the accessories do not need to be pushed all the way onto the vacuum to be secure. Only a few of the accessories latch into place with the click of a button (e.g. Mini Motorized Brush, Flexible Hose).

Filters

How do I know when the filters need to be cleaned?
Check to see if the filters need to be cleaned if the vacuum is not picking up dirt, airflow is restricted, or you notice lighter or no suction. You can tap loose dirt off filters between washes and wash them according to the regular cleaning schedule-once a month for the pre-motor filters; every 9 months for the post-motor filter—to maintain optimal performance. Refer to your Instruction Book for more information.

How often should I clean the filters?
For optimal performance, the pre-motor foam and felt filters should be cleaned once per month, and the post-motor filter should be cleaned every nine months. Tap loose dirt off filters between washes.

To clean the pre-motor filters:
  1. Lift off the lid from the top of the handheld vacuum and remove the foam and felt filters underneath.
  2. Rinse both filters with water only.
  3. Allow them to air-dry completely for at least 24 hours before reinstalling.

To clean the post-motor filter:
  1. Lift off the filter cover below the handle of the handheld vacuum and remove the filter.
  2. Rinse the filter with water only.
  3. Allow it to air-dry completely for at least 24 hours before reinstalling.

It is important to note that your foam and felt filters may appear dirty after first use and may discolor over time. This is normal. Extra filters are available for purchase at sharkaccessories.com if you want a spare set to keep on hand.

Brushrolls

Cleaner head

How do I maintain the Zero-M cleaner head?
If you see any hair wrapped around the brushroll, extending cleaning time will assist Zero-M technology in removing it for you. We recommend using "High-Pile Carpet" mode on a bare-floor surface or low-pile carpet or area rug. Run the vacuum back and forth to allow hair to make its way to the dust cup. If some fibers remain wrapped around the brushroll after continued use, use a coin to turn the three locks counterclockwise to lift off the cleaner head cover. Carefully remove debris from the brushroll and clear airway of blockages. Replace cover, pressing firmly along all sides and turning the three locks clockwise to close.

Using the Vacuum

What should I do if the I notice a change of suction?
If you detect a change of suction in your vacuum, you should first check to make sure your filters are clean. Start by opening the dust cup and locating the screen or mesh filter inside. Ensure that all dirt, debris, and hair is removed from that screen. Next, remove the filters and knock all dirt and dust loose. You may want to do this outside. Now, reinsert your filters and close the dust cup. Test the vacuum's suction against your hand. If the filters are clean but suction continues to fail, this may indicate that you have a clog between the wand and the cleaner head. First, you'll want to remove and inspect the wand to make sure there are no obstructions. Next, check the cleaner head to make sure there are no blockages in the airpath or debris on the brushroll. Lastly, check all dust cup intake openings to make sure they're clear.

What should I do if there is no suction or low suction?
  1. Turn off and unplug the vacuum.
  2. Remove the dust cup. Holding it over a trash receptacle, press the release button near the bottom of the dust cup. The bottom of the dust cup will open to let dust and debris fall into the trash.

  4. Remove the filter cover on the top of the handheld vacuum. Take out the foam and felt pre-motor filters to set aside.
  5. Plug in the unit and place your hand over the filter area above the motor inlet. You should only feel airflow when the unit is powered on. If you feel airflow, go to Step 6. If not, see "What do I do if my vacuum has no power/intermittent power?".
