Filters

How often should I wash the filters?
We recommend washing filters every month. To wash, remove the dust cup from the nozzle body. Press the filter access button on the dust cup body and remove the foam and felt filters underneath. Rinse both under tap water until the water runs clean, then air-dry completely and replace the filters into your vacuum. You can also tap loose dirt off filters between washes as needed. It is important to note that your foam filters may appear dirty after first use – this is normal. These filters will discolor over time – this is also normal. Filters will last the lifetime of the vacuum, but extra filters are available for purchase on sharkaccessories.com.

Brushroll

What is the difference between the all-surface brushroll and the hard floor brushroll?
The all-surface brushroll has stiffer bristles that are meant to engage carpets and lift embedded debris. This brushroll can be used on both bare floors and carpets.

The hard floor brushroll has four strips of soft bristles to remove loose and stuck-on dust and debris from hard-floor surfaces. The hard floor brushroll can be used on both slow and fast settings. This brushroll can also be used on area rugs and carpeted areas for surface cleaning.

What should I do if I notice a change of suction?
If you should detect a change of suction in your vacuum, first check to make sure your filters are clean and the dust cup has not been overfilled. Empty the dust cup each time debris reaches the “max fill” line.

Start by opening the dust cup and locating the screen or mesh filter inside. Ensure all dirt, debris, and hair is removed from the screen. Next, remove the filters and knock all dirt and dust loose. You may want to do this outside. Replace filters and close the dust cup.

If filters are clean but suction continues to fail, you may have a clog between the nozzle and the dust cup. First, remove the dust cup and open the nozzle’s top brushroll access panel. Next, make sure there are no blockages in the air path or excess hair/fibers wrapped around the brushroll. Lastly, check all dust cup intake openings to make sure they're clear. Once you remove any obstructions, you should be ready to start cleaning again.

Dust Cup

What should I do if the dust cup foot pedal stops working?
You can still release the dust cup from the unit to empty. First unplug the unit, and then with the nozzle on the floor, fully recline the handle. Inside the opening for the wand in the nozzle (also called the "joint"), there is a small rectangular button. If pressed, it will release the dust cup.

If you’re unable to release the dust cup and empty debris, please contact Customer Care at 1-877-581-7375 for further assistance.

The dust cup pops out slowly.
If the dust cup is full, it will open and pop out slowly. Emptying the dust cup should make the door open faster. For more information on emptying the dust cup, see "How do I empty the dust cup?"
