How do I store the vacuum safely?
Store the dusting brush, upholstery brush, the crevice tool, or the power brush on the removable tool caddy. Wrap the flexible hose around the base of the vacuum and hook the end of the flexible hose into the hose dock. To release the hose, press the hose storage button. Wrap the attached cord strap around the power cord when storing. Store your vacuum cleaner with the rest of the accessories in a cool, dry area where they will not be a hazard, get damaged, or cause damage to anyone or anything else. Note: Empty the dust cup after cleaning and prior to storing. (See “Care Instructions” section for details.)

How do I use the Dust-Away hard floor attachment to clean bare floors?
To begin cleaning with your Dust-Away hard floor attachment, attach the tool to the end of the telescopic tube. This attachment picks up the finest dust on bare floors including wood floors, tiles, and linoleum. Note that the floor should be dry before using the Dust-Away&trade hard floor attachment.

What are lifetime filters?

How often should I wash the filters?
For optimal performance, clean filters regularly. Between washings, tap filters clean over the waste basket.

Pre-motor foam filter: Under normal usage, rinse and let air-dry completely (for 24 hours) every month.

Pre-motor felt filter: Under normal usage, rinse and let air-dry completely (for 24 hours) every month.

Remove the dust cup. Remove the pre-motor filters out from the top of the motor base. Rinse the filters thoroughly in lukewarm water until the water runs clear. Do not put the filters in the washing machine or dishwasher. Squeeze out excess water and let air-dry for at least 24 hours before replacing. Do not use a hair-dryer or other heating methods to dry. Place the felt filter in first, then the foam filter. Replace the dust cup. Note: The filter material will discolor over time. This is normal and will not affect the performance of the filters.

How do I clean the post-motor HEPA filters?
Remove the tool caddy from the front of the unit. Remove the filter cover by pulling up on the tab and pulling the cover away from the vacuum. Remove the HEPA filter by pulling it straight out. Turn the filter over so the dirty side is on the bottom and vigorously tap it clean against a garbage can to remove any dust. Wash the filter using lukewarm water with the dirty side facedown until the water runs clear. Do not put the filter in the washing machine or dishwasher. Allow the filter to air-dry for 24 hours. Do not use a hair-dryer or other heating methods to dry. Once the HEPA filter is dry, replace it back into the vacuum. Replace the cover by inserting the two tabs into the holes at the top, then swinging the cover down until it clicks into place. Note: The filter material will discolor over time. This is normal and will not affect the performance of the filter.

Dust Cup

What is maximum dirt capacity of the dust cup container?
The dust cup holds 0.6 dry quarts (to the fill line) and 1.7 dry quarts (real usable capacity). It has an easy, bottom-empty design for quick removal of debris. The top door can be released to clean the upper compartment of the dust cup.

How do I empty the dust cup?
Option A for quick empty: Insert the dust cup deep inside a trash receptacle to contain the dust and debris. Press the bottom door release button to release the trap door. Tap gently to empty contents or wipe clean with a soft cloth. Press the door shut again until it clicks.

Option B for allergy sufferers: Wrap a trash bag around the dust cup, leaving space at the bottom for the door to swing open. Locate the bottom door release button within the trash bag and press to release as you shake the dust cup to empty it. Press the door shut again until it clicks.

Note: Option B can also be performed outside the home to further minimize the release of dust back into the air. Carry only the dust cup and trash bag outside. Check to make sure the trap door is secure before returning it to the vacuum. To clean the upper compartment of the dust cup, press the top door release button to open. Empty the contents over a trash receptacle and push the door shut until it clicks into place.

How do I clean the Dust-Away microfiber pad?
Wash the pad separately with warm water either in the washing machine or by hand using powder detergent. Do not use bleach or use fabric softeners, as they may damage or leave a coating that will reduce the cleaning performance of the pads. Tumble dry low or line dry to extend the life of the microfiber fabric. For best floor cleaning results, replace your microfiber pads every 3-4 months for the life of the mop, under normal use. Assembly

How do I assemble the unit?
Insert the end of the flexible hose into the connector on the back of the unit. Align arrows to attach the removable tool caddy to the front of the unit. Insert the crevice tool, dusting brush, upholstery brush, or power brush into the openings on the tool caddy. Attach the shoulder strap onto the hooks on the handle of the unit. To remove the tool caddy, hold the vacuum by the handle, pull out slightly from the right side, then remove it from the unit.

How do I add an extended cleaning reach?
Attach the floor kit handle to the flexible hose. Push it in until it is secure. Insert the telescopic tube into the end of the floor kit handle. Push in until it is secure. Note: All accessories may be used with the flexible hose, the floor kit handle, or the telescopic tube. Attach the desired accessory to the end of the flexible hose, floor kit handle, or telescopic tube by pushing it in until it is tightly secured.

How do I attach the microfiber pad to the Dust-Away hard floor attachment?
To assemble your Dust-Away hard floor attachment, first place the pad fluffy side out across the bottom of the tool. Wrap the tabs up and around to the top and secure with Velcro. For best results, make sure the pad is stretched tight and flat across the bottom and attached securely.

General Information

How do I check for blockages?
Blockages may cause your vacuum to overheat and shut down. To prevent this from happening, check potential blockage areas after heavy use or if you detect a loss of suction or poor cleaning performance.

Dust cup: The dust cup may be full. Empty the dust cup.

Filters (pre-motor and post-motor): Ensure that both the pre-motor filters and the post-motor HEPA filter are clean.

Accessories: Check intake openings on any attachment you are using, including the power brush, crevice tool, upholstery brush, dusting brush, flexible hose, floor kit handle, and straight suction nozzle.

How do I check for blockages in the power brush?
Turn the power brush over, slide the locking latch forward and tilt the cover upward to remove. Inspect the rotating bristle brush, turbine wheel, and air passage. Remove any blockage or debris and carefully, without damaging the bristles or belt, cut any build-up of hair or string wrapped around the rotating bristle brush with scissors. To reassemble, first insert the tabs on the front edge of the cover into the matching holes in the top half of the power brush and tilt the cover back down pressing until it clicks into place.

How do I reset the motor thermostat?
Your Shark® Lift-Around® vacuum is equipped with a protective motor thermostat. If the motor should overheat, the thermostat shuts off the power. To reset the motor thermostat, press the power button to turn off the vacuum. Unplug the vacuum. Check for clogged hose or filter; unclog the hose and replace the filter. (Refer to "Checking for Blockages.") Wait 45 minutes for the vacuum to cool; then plug in the vacuum. Press the power button to restart the vacuum. Note: If the vacuum still does not start, contact Customer Care at 1-877-581-7375.

My vacuum turns off on its own.
This vacuum cleaner is equipped with a motor protective thermostat. If for some reason your vacuum overheats, the thermostat will automatically turn the unit off. Should this occur, perform the following steps to restart the motor thermostat:
1. Press down on the power button to turn the Lift-Around® vacuum off.
2. Unplug the vacuum.
3. Empty the dust cup and clean the filters. (See “Maintenance” for instructions.)
4. Check for blockages in hose, accessories, and inlet opening. (See “Checking for Blockages” for instructions.)
5. Allow the unit to cool for a minimum of 45 minutes.
6. Plug in the vacuum.
7. Press the power button again to restart the vacuum.

Note: If the vacuum still does not start, contact Customer Care at 1-877-581-7375.
