How do I know when the filters need to be cleaned?
Filters may need to be cleaned if the vacuum is not picking up dirt, if airflow is restricted, or if you notice lighter suction or no suction.

See "How often should I clean the filters?" for further instructions.

How do I clean the Dust-Away microfiber pad?
Wash the pad separately with warm water either in the washing machine or by hand using powder detergent. Do not use bleach or use fabric softeners, as they may damage or leave a coating that will reduce the cleaning performance of the pads. Tumble dry low or line dry to extend the life of the microfiber fabric. For best floor cleaning results, replace your microfiber pads every 3-4 months for the life of the mop, under normal use. You can purchase replacement microfiber dusting pads and other accessories on sharkaccessories.com.

How do I empty the dust cup?
Option A for quick empty: Insert the dust cup deep inside a trash receptacle to contain the dust and debris. Press the bottom door release button to release the trap door. Tap gently to empty contents or wipe clean with a soft cloth. Press the door shut again until it clicks.

Option B for allergy sufferers: Wrap a trash bag around the dust cup, leaving space at the bottom for the door to swing open. Locate the bottom door release button within the trash bag and press to release as you shake the dust cup to empty it. Press the door shut again until it clicks.

Note: Option B can also be performed outside the home to further minimize the release of dust back into the air. Carry only the dust cup and trash bag outside. Check to make sure the trap door is secure before returning it to the vacuum. To clean the upper compartment of the dust cup, press the top door release button to open. Empty the contents over a trash receptacle and push the door shut until it clicks into place.

How do I wash the pre-motor filters?
Remove the dust cup. Remove the pre-motor filters out from the top of the motor base. Rinse the filters thoroughly in lukewarm water until the water runs clear. Do not put the filters in the washing machine or dishwasher. Squeeze out excess water and let air-dry for at least 24 hours before replacing. Do not use a hair-dryer or other heating methods to dry. Place the felt filter in first, then the foam filter. Replace the dust cup. Note: The filter material will discolor over time. This is normal and will not affect the performance of the filters.

How do I clean the post-motor HEPA filters?
Remove the tool caddy from the front of the unit. Remove the filter cover by pulling up on the tab and pulling the cover away from the vacuum. Remove the HEPA filter by pulling it straight out. Turn the filter over so the dirty side is on the bottom and vigorously tap it clean against a garbage can to remove any dust. Wash the filter using lukewarm water with the dirty side facedown until the water runs clear. Do not put the filter in the washing machine or dishwasher. Allow the filter to air-dry for 24 hours. Do not use a hair-dryer or other heating methods to dry. Once the HEPA filter is dry, replace it back into the vacuum. Replace the cover by inserting the two tabs into the holes at the top, then swinging the cover down until it clicks into place. Note: The filter material will discolor over time. This is normal and will not affect the performance of the filter.
